Who we are, where we're going
The year was 1831, and the Greenwood Family was awarded two leagues of land as part of Stephen F. Austin’s second colony in what was then Mexico; present day Grimes County. The pioneer family soon became known as innovators in the region, quickly diversifying and expanding their agricultural operations and by the early 20th century, operated the Greenwood Mercantile Co., Security State Bank, and various other farming and ranching enterprises in and around Plantersville in Southeastern Grimes County.
The tradition of identifying profitable ventures continued when the family purchased their first Registered Red Brangus bulls in the mid 1980’s. The Red Brangus sired calf crop was uniform, easy fleshing, and demanded top dollar at the auction barn. Thus, an appreciation for well-adapted, Red Brangus genetics was born.
Today, Greenwood Cattle Company is still a family business operating in Grimes County on land owned for well over a century. Driven by the principles of “fertility, longevity, and maternal merit” we seek to produce functional black and red Brangus cattle that outlast and outperform the competition. We are strong believers in maternal power with our donor pen stemming from the most storied, powerful cow families in the business. Validated by show ring success, our bull battery boasts elite pedigrees combined with breed leading performance. By implementing modern technologies like genomic enhanced EPDs and IVF as well as introducing new outcross pedigrees, we seek to keep our customers on the forefront of the beef industry.
Over the years our junior customers have enjoyed countless successes in the show ring. We pride ourselves on working closely with each junior family and providing students with hands-on opportunities at the ranch to learn about the realities of ranching. If you are junior showman looking for your next Brangus heifer project, please give us a call.
If you're ever near Plantersville, please stop by. We love to talk cattle!
